Raleigh Wade Smith, age 85, of Leitchfield, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was born on October 14, 1926 in Breckinridge County, the son of the late Dennie and Tennie Sebastian Smith.
He was a farmer, a member of the Rough River ATV Club, and a member of the Rough River Scooter Club. He also worked as a tobacco surveyor, was a certified Evinrude boat motor mechanic at Smith’s Cabinet and Marine Shop, foreman at CP Electronics, shipping foreman and truck driver for Hoover-Seng, and worked in the tobacco division of DG Hayes Wholesale Warehouse Company. He was an Elder and the oldest member of the Eveleigh Independent Church. He joined the church in 1953.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Joyce Conklin Smith, whom he married on October 28, 1949.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Hatfield and her husband David, of Leitchfield; two granddaughters, Eveleigh Hatfield Stewart and her husband Tony, of Piney Flats, TN, and Holly Hatfield (a 2nd Lt. in the United States Air Force), of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Cody Smith, of Crestview, FL; one sister-in-law, Betty Jo Crawford and her husband H.T., of Leitchfield; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Other than his wife Joyce, and his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Zelba, Raymond, Roy, Estill, and Odie Smith, and four sisters, Nellie Hines Butler, Dimple Pryor, Jewell Green, and one infant Celeste Smith.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield, with Bob Crawford, his nephew, officiating. Burial was in the Eveleigh Cemetery.
