Carlie Powell, age 71, of Clarkson, departed this life on Wednesday afternoon, September 26, 2012 surrounded by his family.

He was born December 9, 1940, the son of the late Alfie and Della Alvey Powell.

After graduation from Clarkson High School, Carlie served his country in the US Army. When he returned home to Grayson County he married his sweetheart, Linda Manion. They lived and raised their family in Grayson County. He was a member and deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church, a US Army Veteran, and a retired mail carrier. His favorite hobby was fishing and he got great joy sharing his fishing trips with his family and friends.

Carlie is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Mickey (Rebecca) Powell, and Jamie (Allison) Powell; four grandchildren, Abi, Caleb, Griffin and Maddox Powell.

Other survivors include four brothers, Edward, Kenneth, Anthony and Leroy Powell, and four sisters, Rose Webb, Wanda Milliner, Darlene Franklin and Kathy Powell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Rita Powell and one brother, Norman Powell.Funeral Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Bro. J.H. Manion and Bro. Thomas Meredith officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
