Joyce Conklin Smith, age 83, of Leitchfield, passed away Wednesday, August, 29 2012, at the Grayson Manor Nursing Home in Leitchfield, Kentucky.

She was born on September 1, 1928 in Grayson County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late William Love and Mabel Witten Conklin. In addition to being a farmer’s wife and a full-time mother, she worked at the sewing factory, Hobbs, Keith Monuments, and was employed as a US Census Worker.

She was a member of the Eveleigh Independent Church and a graduate of the Leitchfield High School, Class of 1946.

She is survived by her husband, Raleigh Smith; her daughter, Karen Hatfield (David); two granddaughters, Eveleigh Hatfield Stewart (Tony), of Piney Flats, Tenn., and Holly Hatfield (2nd Lt. In the United States Air Force), of Cincinnati, Ohio; her sister, Betty Jo Crawford (H.T.), of Leitchfield; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield, with Bob Crawford, her nephew, officiating. Burial was in the Eveleigh Cemetery.
