Mabel Leta Probus Wilson of Leitchfield, passed away Friday, August 3, 2012 at Grayson Manor Nursing Home, claiming the promise of her Saviour.
She was born August 18, 1910 in Grayson County, to Mora and Elizabeth Armstrong Probus. After graduating from Caneyville High School, she continued her education and graduated from Kentucky Teachers College in Bowling Green. She taught in one-room schools until she met and married the love of her life, Emmett Wilson, in 1933. They were blessed with 74 years of marriage before Emmett’s death in July of 2007.
Mabel was a housewife and member of Little Clifty Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. Her heart and hands were truly made to be that of a mother, as she was blessed with a beautiful family.
Though her life took her to Illinois for a number of years, in 1974 she returned to her beloved Kentucky home where she lived the remainder of her years.
Mabel leaves behind to cherish her memories two sons, James and his wife, Jean, of Springerville, AZ, and Robert of Eagar, AZ.; four daughters, Shirley Oller and her husband, Scottie, of Leitchfield, Carolyn Dennis and her husband Edward, of Big Clifty, Sandra Weiss and her husband Emil, of Kaneville, IL, and Blanche Madsen and her husband, Lee, of Hinckley, IL; one daughter-in-law, Kay Burden Wilson, of Sevierville, TN; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Simms and one sister-in-law, Gladys Probus, both of Louisville, and a host of neices, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett, her parents, two sons, Cletus Ray and Charles Emmett, one grandson, Kevin Wilson, four brothers, Freddie, Chester, Minor and Murrell Probus, and one sister, Anna Mae Garrett.
Friends may call from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2012, continuing at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Watkins-Oller Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Watkins-Oller Funeral Home with Bro. Edward Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in Stones View Cemetery.
