A pre-Christmas wreck left an Owensboro man fighting for his life as he was flown to University of Louisville Hospital on Sunday evening.
38-year-old David S. Bramblett was travelling north on Highway 79, approximately three miles south of the city of Caneyville when the accident occurred, according to an accident report filed by the responding officer, Deputy Bryan Hammons, of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department.
Bramblett’s 1995 Dodge Avenger ran off of the right shoulder of the roadway before leaving the highway and hitting a tree. The vehicle then flipped approximately five or six times before coming to a rest upside down, Hammons said.
Bramlett, who was ejected from the vehicle, was found on the ground around 20 feet away. While his airbag was deployed during the collision, the report states that he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Bramblett suffered incapacitating head and/or face injuries, and was treated by Butler County EMS at the scene.
He was transferred by ambulance to the Caneyville school where paramedics were met by the Air Evac team, who transported him by helicopter to U of L Hospital’s emergency room for further treatment.
Hammon’s report stated that he found Bramblett to have a “strong smell of alcohol on his breath” following the collission.
The very severely damaged vehicle was removed from the roadway by Terry’s Towing.
