A Leitchfield man is accused of threatening officers at the Grayson County Detention Center with a “shank,” or a knife-like weapon, while incarcerated at the jail.
According to a recent Circuit Court indictment, Rondell Dale Winchell, 38, of South Cannon Street, has been accused of promoting contraband in the first degree, four counts of terroristic threatening in the second degree, and being a persistent felony offender in the first degree.
The alleged incident occurred on September 8, when Winchell is accused of having introduced the weapon into the detention center while being detained there, and then subsequently threatening to commit a crime or crimes that were likely to result in death or serious injury to Captain Andy Burnett and Deputies Jared Joyce, Jeremy Lindsey and Mandy Bennett.
Having also been convicted of at least two felony offenses within the five years prior to the incident, Winchell is additionally accused of being a persistent felony offender.
Fifteen other men and women were also indicted on various charges.
-Terry Blanton, 49, a former Detective with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department, was indicted on charges of theft of a controlled substance, trafficking in a controlled substance in the second degree, and hindering apprehension in the second degree.
The charges allege that between September 15, 2011 and March 31, 2012, Blanton unlawfully took or exercised control over controlled substance belonging to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
He is also accused of knowingly and unlawfully transferring a Schedule III controlled substance, hydrocodone, to another person or persons between January 1 and March 31, and of hindering apprehension on April 24, when he rendered assistance to Hope Shelbourne, of Leitchfield, who was being sought in connection with another criminal offense.
A pretrial conference has been scheduled for later this month.
-Desmond B. Petty, 21, of Vanmeter Street in Clarkson, was indicted on six counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance; and failure to notify address change to the Department of Transportation.
Petty’s charges allege that on August 30, he exercised “extreme indifference to the value of human life” by hitting Floyd Rigdon’s vehicle, which “created a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to him.”
Other passengers in the vehicle at the time were Christopher Gordon, Rachel Parker, Joshua Long, Sierra Petty, and Sharon Dunaway, against whom Petty is also accused of purposefully causing danger of death or serious injury.
Petty is accused of having left the scene of the accident without rendering aid or assistance or stopping to ascertain the extent of any injuries and/or damages.
Petty’s bond was set by the Commonwealth at $10,000.
-Johnny Whobrey, 33, of White Street, in Leitchfield, was indicted for burglary in the second degree, theft by unlawful taking or disposition of property valued at $500 or more, criminal mischief in the first degree, and being a persistent felony offender in the second degree.
Whobrey is accused of burglarizing a residence on Decker School Road which belonged to Freda Duvall on or around May 27. During the incident, Whobrey is accused of stealing jewelry and causing more than $1,000 in damage to the property.
Additionally, having been convicted of at least two felony offenses within the past five years or having been on probation or parole at the time of the incident, he is charged with being a persistent felony offender.
The Commonwealth recommended a $15,000 bond for Whobrey.
-Michael L. Stone, 19, of Millerstown Road in Clarkson, was indicted for theft by unlawful taking of an automobile valued at $10,000 or more, two counts of burglary in the third degree, and two counts of criminal mischief in the first degree.
Stone is accused of having stolen a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab belonging to Eric Puckett on October 27.
On the same date, he is also accused of having burglarized Wood Chiropractic and JC Cigarette Outlet.
He is alleged to have intentionally caused damage worth more than $1,000 at each of the businesses as well.
Stone’s bond was set at $15,000.
-Angela England, 36, of West Main Street in Leitchfield, was indicted on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, first offense; and four counts of controlled substance endangerment to a child in the fourth degree.
England is accused of having manufactured the drug methamphetamine or having had in her possession the chemicals and/or equipment to do so with the intent to manufacture on July 2.
At the time, she is also accused of knowingly permitting four children, ages 1, 8, 12, and 14 to be present while manufacturing or intending to manufacture the drug. Court documents note that this put the children “in danger of serious physical injury or death.”
England’s bond was set at $10,000.
-Matthew D. Wilson, of Kefauver Road in Millwood, was indicted on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, first offense; and possession of the controlled substance methamphetamine in the first degree.
Wilson’s charges stem from a September 30 incident during which he is accused of having manufactured meth or having had in his possession the chemicals and/or equipment to do so with the intent of manufacturing. He also, at the time, is accused of having in his possession the finished drug, methamphetamine.
Wilson’s bond was set at $10,000.
-Troy Lininger, 22, of Spring Street in Leitchfield, was indicted on two counts of assault in the third degree of a police officer, terroristic threatening in the second degree, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct in the second degree, and alcohol intoxication in a public place - first and second offense.
On October 3, Lininger is accused of having caused or attempted to cause physical injury to Officers Robert Jackson and Ian Renfrow, of the Leitchfield Police Department. Lininger also is accused of having threatened to commit crimes that were likely to result in death or serious physical injury to Officer Braxton Allen, of the LPD.
Lininger allegedly refused to comply with a directive of an arresting officer from LPD, and engaged in fighting or other violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior while at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center ER.
Finally, he is accused of having appeared under the influence of alcohol to the degree that he “endangered himself or the persons or property around him.”
The Commonwealth recommended that Lininger’s bond be set at $10,000
-Patricia H. Payne, 46, of Hardinsburg, was indicted for theft by unlawful taking or disposition of property valued at $10,000 or more.
Payne is accused of having unlawfully taken the money from Leitchfield Deposit Bank between July 1, 2010 and May 25, 2012.
A surety bond was recommended for Payne.
-Janice Ardt, 34, of Ednes Lane in Leitchfield, was indicted for theft by failure to make required disposition of property.
The allegations against Ardt state that between July 11 and August 1, she received between $500 and $10,000 belonging to Ron Hines, and “then kept or treated the property as her own, and failed to make required payment or disposition.”
Ardt’s bond was set at $5,000.
-Timothy D. Yocum, 45, of Peonia Road in Clarkson, was indicted on charges of cultivating marijuana, five or more plants; trafficking in marijuana, between eight ounces and five pounds; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of marijuana. Each of the four charges was enhanced by the possession of a firearm.
Yocum’s charges stem from an August 15 incident during which he is accused of having been found to be cultivating marijuana plants for the purpose of sale or transfer.
Yocum’s bond was set at $15,000.
-James E. Colmore, Jr., 27, of Concord Road in Falls of Rough, is accused of having cultivated five or more marijuana plants, having possessed marijuana, and having possessed drug paraphernalia on August 11.
Colmore’s bond was set at $10,000.
Tabitha M. Colmore, John R. Colmore, and Jeremy W. Colmore, Jr. were also listed as co-defendants in this case.
- Roger Higdon, 51, of Beaver Dam Creek Road, in Leitchfield, was indicted on three counts of unlawful taking or disposition of livestock.
Higdon is accused of having taken a black and white heifer, a cross heifer and a Charolei cow belonging to Marty Higdon, and each valued at over $500 on or about May 15.
No bond was assigned.
-Joetta R. Morrison, 28 of Hardinsburg, was indicted for flagrant nonsupport, and is alleged to have persistently failed to provide child support for her minor child, age six.
Court documents accuse Morrison of having accumulated an arrearage of $5,663.15 as of October 31.
Morrison’s bond was set at $10,000, and she has been ordered to continue paying current child support as ordered.
-Jason Dorton, 35, of South Clinton Street in Leitchfield, was indicted for flagrant non-support, and is accused of having persistently failed to provide child support for his minor children, aged 10 and 12.
Court documents allege that Dorton had accumulated an arrearage of $4,766.53 as of October 31.
His bond was set at $10,000, and he is ordered to continue paying child support as ordered.
-Brennan Woosley, 36, of Pear Street in Leitchfield, was indicted for flagrant non-support, and is accused of having persistently failed to provide child support for his minor child, aged 13.
Woosley is accused of having accumulated an arrearage of $10,479.32 as of October 31.
His bond was set at $10,000, and he was ordered to continue paying child support as ordered.
