An Owensboro Road home which was damaged by a drunk driver on Wednesday, November 28, was destroyed by fire from an unknown cause just days later on December 1.
Both Leitchfield Fire Department and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department responded to the one-vehicle accident last Wednesday which damaged the side and underneath the home located at 5038 Owensboro Road.
The driver of the 1995 Chevrolet Camaro which hit the house was 23-year-old Lisuan Pachenco Graveran, of Tilford Drive in Falls of Rough.
An accident report filed by responding officer Deputy Chris Bates said that Graveran told him at the scene that “she didn’t know where she was and that she was drunk.” She also told Bates that she got behind the wheel after someone else told her to drive.
At the time of the collision, there were no other passengers in the car, which was licensed to Mark Cook, of Falls of Rough.
The report also states that at the time of the accident, Graveran was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
She was treated at the scene by Grayson County EMS and was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center where she was further treated for potential leg injuries.
Graveran possessed the typical signs of a person under the influence of alcohol while at the scene of the accident, including a strong odor of alcohol on her person, Bates said.
Blood samples were taken at TLRMC to determine her blood alcohol level, and the results of the test are pending.
At the time the Camaro hit the house, there were two occupants inside the home; the homeowner, Courtland Kerr, and his wife. According to the report, the Kerr’s were sleeping at the time of the collision, which was just before 11 p.m., and neither of them were injured.
At approximately 12:02 p.m. on Saturday, just two and a half days after the wreck, LFD responded to Kerr’s address again; this time for a fire which began on the same side of the home that the vehicle had struck.
Second Assistant Chief Tony King, with LFD, stressed that the cause of the fire is still unknown and explained that the State Fire Marshall investigated on Tuesday, December 4 to determine the cause.
Both Clarkson Volunteer Fire Department and Falls of Rough Volunteer Fire Department assisted in fighting the flames, which caused significant damage to the home.
King described the damage to the structure by saying, “It’s probably totalled.”
Editor’s Note: The driver of the vehicle, Lisuan Graveran, was arrested on November 29 on an unrelated charge of criminal trespassing. According to the arrest report, Mark Cook, who was also the owner of the Camaro which damaged the Owensboro Road home the night before, called GCSD after Graveran refused to leave his property. The Tilford Drive address at which she was found to be trespassing was the same one listed as her home address in reports related to the wreck.
