One man was airlifted to University Medical Center in Louisville after what appears to be a drunken driving accident, according to the report filed with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department.

39-year-old Shain B. Finley, of Blowtown Road in Leitchfield, was travelling south on Kefauver Road (KY 2193) at around 3:03 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26 when the accident occurred.

The report, filed by Detective Jeff Kelsey, of the GCSD, states that Finley’s 2000 Ford F250 appeared to have taken a curve too fast and run off of the roadway.

The vehicle came back into the road, crossing over to the northbound lane before hitting a tree.

The impact spun the truck so that it came to a rest on the roadway facing the opposite direction after also hitting a fence.

Finley, who suffered multiple incapacitating injuries, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be removed by mechanical means.

Both the Leitchfield Volunteer Fire Department and Grayson County EMS worked to free him before he was transported by emergency helicopter to Louisville for further treatment of his injuries.

According to the report, Finley told first responders, as they worked to remove him from the wreckage, that he had been drinking.

Once Finley had been removed from the scene, Detective Kelsey noted an open bottle of vodka “in plain view” in the passenger’s seat of the truck as he checked the vehicle for insurance information.

Charges are likely forthcoming.

The truck, which sustained very severe damage, was removed from the scene by Sonny’s Wrecker Service.

A separate accident on Lilac Road on Thursday morning yielded no injuries after a McDaniels woman hit a parked car and a tree.

Tammi Fuller, 35, who was travelling south around seven miles north of the city of Leitchfield at the time of the collision, told officers that she lost control of her vehicle in a curve along the wet roadway just past the bridge into Grayson County.

Fuller’s 1996 Mercury Sable left the roadway and travelled onto the property of Conroy Stanton, where it collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Conventional Cab pick-up and a tree.

Fuller, who was wearing a setbelt at the time, suffered no apparent injuries, according to the accident report filed by Chief Deputy Tony Willen, of the GCSD.

There were no occupants in the parked truck.

Both vehicles suffered moderate damage in the incident.
