Several juveniles have been charged by police for doing some major mischief to the northern part of Leitchfield. The teens and pre-teens (ages 12-15) are facing a total of 50 charges for damaging residences, businesses and numerous pieces of personal property.

Leitchfield Police Department Detective Kevin Smith explained the charges are wanton endangerment first degree, criminal mischief first degree, criminal mischief second degree, and criminal mischief third degree.

According to Smith, the crimes took place on or around July 23. Multiple complaints were received about windows being broken out of local businesses and a home, school bus windows broken out and numerous mailboxes and other personal property being damaged or destroyed.

Grayson County School Board Superintendent Barry Anderson spoke about the vandalism being done to school property (buses).

“They broke out the rear-door windows in about five buses,” Anderson mentioned. “We got them fixed, but it cost us some money. The incident occurred on Thursday night (July 22). It has just been a nuisance for us to have to get the buses fixed. I compliment the police for resolving this issue very quickly.”

Total repairs for all items that were damaged were in excess of $2,000.
