With the heat index hovering at barely tolerable levels, the boys’ teams from Grayson and Edmonson counties, plus the team from Warren East sweated their way around the picturesque course in Edmonson County.
The Lady Cougars also played on Monday, taking on the Lady Raiders from Warren East and came away with a season-opening victory, 188-210. The Cougars won their three-way match with a team score of 155. Warren East was second at 175, just a stroke in front of Edmonson County at 176.
Left-handed senior Dylan Vaught led the way for the Cougars, shooting a one-over par 36 on the front nine. Senior J. D. Majors was not far behind, carding a three-over 38. Sophomore Nolan White shot a 40, while senior Kyle Blessitt came in with a 41.
Senior Paige Higdon led the Lady Cougar efforts, finishing with a round of 40 on the back nine. Junior Brooke Bratcher shot a 47, while sophomore Catey Logsdon had a 50 and junior Brianne Schultz shot a 51.
Other scores included: Brody Fulkerson, 44; Austin Hughes, 46; Michael Fisher, 47; Ross Embry, 48; Ty Clemons 49; Cole Manion, 50.
The Cougar golfers were scheduled to play away matches on Tuesday and Thursday, but those matches were in question because of the simmering temperatures.
They are scheduled to play their first home match of the season on Monday afternoon, August 16 at the Legacy Golf Club.
