Christian-contemporary music fans look forward to visiting Camp Loucon during this time of year. New Song Music Festival begins on August 13, and does not stop rocking until the last person leaves on Sunday afternoon.

The big event (New Song) is a three-day concert series that showcases up and coming talent (performing on the second stage), as well as big names in the music industry (performing on the main stage).

The festival’s main focus is to bring in the big talent, while at the same time, offering a way for people to come together and fellowship with one another.

New Song is held every year at Camp Loucon Training and Retreat Center, which is located at 8044 Anneta Road in Leitchfield. This is the 25th year for Camp Loucon to host the gathering.

Family Force 5 will be the main stage headliner for Friday night, and MercyMe will be the headliner for Saturday night.

Festival Chair Ken Hundley talked about this year’s theme, ‘Sing to the Lord a New Song’, and how the staff came to a decision on the main performing artists.

“It is all about the ministry,” Hundley reflected. “This is our 25th year. God has been faithful to New Song. Festivals have come and gone, but God has been faithful to us. We have been able to focus on the ministry. For our 25th year we chose Family Force 5 for Friday and MercyMe for Saturday as our main acts. Family Force 5 delivers an upbeat performance that the kids will really like. MercyMe has been in the ministry for a long time. They are a very established group that do a quality show with a ministry focus.”

Second stage acts involve regional bands that are trying to get their work out to music lovers. Friday night’s performance will be a late-night acoustic by Andrew Peterson, and Saturday’s headliner will be Me In Motion.

Me In Motion is a three-man rock band that was formed in 2006. The band’s platform is to write songs that inspire people to live life to its fullest.

“New Song comes at the end of a busy summer,” Hundley explained. “More and more people stay Saturday night for the worship service on Sunday. The relationship with Loucon is very valuable. We plan a year ahead of time with a committee of over 20 people to pull this whole thing off. We work a week before setting up the stage, and come in the week of to make final preparations. Come out and celebrate with us. We are excited to come back to Leitchfield. We appreciate the opportunity to serve the area for another year.”
