Election deadline looms, some races still open for filing

The 2010 election deadlines are quickly approaching. With most of the races that will be voted on in the November election narrowed down to two candidates there are a few races still open for filing.

The opportunity to run in the Clarkson and Caneyville commissioner and mayor race deadlines are Tuesday, August 10. All petitions, certifications or statements requesting to run must be filed with the Grayson County Court Clerk’s office before 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Candidates for the third and fifth district of the school board also have the same deadline.

Public drawings for ballot positions will be Thursday, August 12 at 2 p.m. and the last day to register to vote in the November election is October 4 at 4 p.m.

As of press time Friday the following candidates have filed papers with the clerks office.

In the Caneyville commissioners race: Connie Gootee, Janice Minton, Scott Majors and Debra Embry have filed and James Paul Embry has filed for mayor.

In Clarkson Bonnie Henderson and Dennie Wilkerson has filed papers to run for mayor, with Keith Higdon, Scotty Gore, Carl Ball, Tom Livergood and Kay Gibson running for commissioner.

Anna Majors has filed to run in the third district school board position that she currently holds and Mona Fulkerson has filed to run in the position in the fifth district that she holds.
