A Sunday afternoon joyride in a golf cart turned deadly for a Louisville teen while visiting Rough River Lake on July 25.

The accident occurred on Panther Creek Road in Falls of Rough shortly after 2 p.m.

Grayson County Sheriff Deputy Brian Hammons explained that 15-year-old Jordan Jackson, the front passenger in the golf cart, died from multiple blunt force trauma to an open head injury.

Two other females in the golf cart were also transported to the hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.

The fourth person in the vehicle suffered minor injuries, but did not require medical treatment.

The four teens visiting the lake area were attempting to go down a hill in their golf cart when it malfunctioned.

According to Hammons, the brakes locked up after the driver attempted to apply the brakes going down a hill. The cart overturned several times in the roadway. All four of the juveniles were ejected from the cart.

Grayson County Emergency Medical Services transported Jackson to Twin Lakes Emergency Room. She was pronounced dead at 3:17 p.m. Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson.

The two other people who received treatment were transported by private means to Twin Lakes.

Hammons added that none of the juveniles were wearing seat belts.

Falls of Rough Fire Department also responded to the scene of the accident.

Hammons said during the summer month’s traffic around Nolin and Rough River Lakes increases.

"Because of the fact that we have two lakes in Grayson County," Hammons mentioned, "we have a large amount of golf carts, four wheelers and dirt bikes that are seen around the lakes. Always be aware that just because a golf cart normally does not operate at high speeds, does not mean that the potential for accidents are any less."
