According to a report from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Jason White noticed a Ford Contour traveling west on Hwy 62 driving erratically and attempted to stop the vehicle around 12 p.m. July 8.
The driver, Patrick Fegan, 34, of Leitchfield, refused to stop the vehicle and turned onto Watershed Road in an attempt to elude police.
After a short chase Fegan hit a ditch and lost control of the vehicle. The Contour then overturned and came to a final rest upside down.
Fegan escaped from the car and fled from the scene of the accident on foot. White chased him a short distance before catching him in a nearby creek, reported Chief Deputy Tony Willen.
After returning to the vehicle White assisted 19-year-old Erika Manely in exiting the vehicle. Grayson County Emergency Medical Services transported Manley to the nearby parking lot of the high school where it met the air ambulance Air Methods of Kentucky. The teen was then transported to a Louisville hospital for serious injuries.
Sheriff deputies then searched the vehicle and found equipment and several ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Fegan, who also had an outstanding warrant in another county, was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for injuries and released to the Grayson County Detention Center.
Sheriff’s Detective Terry Blanton disposed of the meth ingredients and several syringes found in the vehicle.
Fegan was charged with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs, fleeing or evading police, first-degree driving with a DUI suspended license and first-offense manufacturing methamphetamines.
The case remains under investigation and charges on Manley may be pending, reported Willen.
As of press time Friday Fegan was lodged in the detention center on a $25,000 cash bond and Manley is a patient at University of Louisville Hospital.
