This year’s FreedomFest planners are happy to announce a brand new event on Friday night.

There will be special exhibition softball tournament on the Babe Ruth Field by championship players from the 1993 National Championship team.

The Boombah/Midstate/South Dixie All-Star Softball Exhibition players will play a game against local law enforcement officers in a slow pitch softball game.

Event organizer Kent Geary said some of the players travel all over the country playing in different conferences and played together in 1993.

“These guys were part of a team years ago and when I suggested we get together for kind of a reunion they were all for it,” said Geary. “These guys are similar to pro baseball players except this is an amateur league. These guys can hit a home run from the Babe Ruth Field to the little league field over at Wilkey. They have some great tricks. It is similar what the Harlem Globetrotters do with basketball except this is softball.”

This is a special event that is being put together just for the 2010 Leitchfield Freedom Fest.

“It should be a good show,” said Geary. “Some of the local law enforcement will be playing against us. Jerrod Mudd has put together a team.”

The game is free to attend and will begin at 8:30 under the lights of the Babe Ruth baseball field.

The game is just part of the festivities that will begin at 5 p.m., Friday, July 9 and run through Sunday afternoon, July 11.
