During each Relay for Life event, survivors take a walk around the track to celebrate life. Pictured here are the survivors from Friday night’s event.
Humidity seemed to play a contributing factor in overall participation for this year’s Relay for Life fundraising event on June 18. That did not stop the county’s grand collection total to increase to a new high of $122,936.37.

The previous total for 2009’s fundraiser was $115,007.51.

Relay Chairperson Michele Heavrin guesstimated the attendance for the all-night event at around 600 people. In addition to the reduced crowd was lower participation for team campsites being set up.

“Several teams signed up, but were unable to make it that night,” Heavrin explained. “Overall it was a good night for everyone, despite the extreme heat conditions.”

Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center was awarded the big winner for the night for collecting $18,576.25. That was the most money raised by a non-profit organization.

Walmart received recognition for raising the most money by a business. The staff’s grand fundraising total was $10,045.

Carroll Family and Friends were chosen as the family team who raised the most money ($11,690.82), and the group who sold the most luminaries ($395).

Pearlie Mae York was recognized for most money raised by an individual-$3,500.

Best Decorated Campsite went to Modern Transmission Development, Most Spirited Campsite went to First General Baptist Church and Best Themed Campsite went to Leggett and Platt.
