Delbert Carl Tomes, age 84 of Caneyville, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Veteran’s Hospital, in Louisville.

He was born August 16, 1925 in Edmonson County, the son of George and Minnie Gilbert Tomes. He was a member of the Beech Grove United Baptist Church and of the Pilgrim Lodge # 545.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Tomes, of Caneyville; one son, Carl Tomes, Jr., of Caneyville; five daughters, Sandra Kay Goodman, of Caneyville, Ava Rose Wright, Debra Wood, and Mildred Sheila Veltman, all of Louisville, and Misty Sunshine Tomes, of Bowling Green; four brothers, Marion, Sherman and Bill Tomes, all of Louisville, and Sammy Tomes, of Mt. Washington; two sisters, Jewell Tomes, of Leitchfield, and Goldie Woosley, of Louisville; eight granddaughters, one grandson, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 31, 2010 at Beech Grove United Baptist Church, with Bro, Leland Childress and Bro. Jerry Vincent officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
