The Caneyville City Commission discussed changing the radio system the city currently uses to meet the Federal Communications Commission mandate.

The FCC is requiring all non-Federal public safety licensees using 25 kHz radio systems migrate to narrowband 12.5 kHz channels by January 1, 2013.

There will be fines imposed for those who continue to use the wide band system after the deadline.

The E-911 Dispatch hopes to be converted by July of 2011, thus requiring the City to meet this deadline as well.

An application is being made for a federal grant for the county but it is a very competitive process.

This grant would not cover the cost of radios for City Hall or utility vehicles.

Fire/Police Chief Anthony Clark is working to obtain a price quote for the commission.

Using narrowband channels will ensure that agencies take advantage of more efficient technology and, by reducing channel width, will allow additional channels to exist within the same spectrum space.

In other business:

• Avery Fleener reported Vern is working on the plans for the next phase of our sewer rehab project and should submit them this week to the state.

• the commission was in agreement to authorize Anthony to continue to search for a mini pumper to replace the 1977 Dodge mini pumper.

• the commission adopted Resolution 5.10.10, stating River Park Drive will be closed during ball park operations.

• the commission agreed to contact Lincoln Trail about applying for a Safe Route to School Grant for 2011.

• Clark advised the commission the Crusade for Children will be held the first weekend in June.
