On May 7 the club will host a Meet the Candidate Night where all the candidates will be recognized and given the opportunity to give a short speech.
There will be homemade soups, sandwiches and desserts made by the members of the club and for a low fee of $8 per adult and $5 per child attendees can enjoy the food.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Woman’s Club’s many community service projects the club is involved in each year.
The idea of combining the fundraiser with a meet the candidate night came after several members of the club attended the state convention.
“We were looking for a way to raise money for the club and another group had done this,” said Second Vice President Dorothy McCAll. “We knew we could make some great food that people would enjoy and thought this would be an easy way to raise money in the process.”
All the food served will be recipes from the members and will be prepared from the members.
Each local candidate was sent an invitation to the event and state candidates as well as judicial candidates were invited to attend.
The Leitchfield Woman’s Club is thought to be the oldest service organization in Leitchfield. It was organized in 1928 by 70 charter woman of the community.
The object of the club was to secure closer contact among the woman of the community for the purpose of broadening their interests and improving the community.
With that in mind, the club has been involved in many projects over the years.
They were very instrumental in the purchase and the maintenance of the Historical Jack Thomas House, home of the club meeting.
The club meets every first Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Jack Thomas House at 122 E. Main Street.
