My husband and I moved to Leitchfield in 1973. We raised our children here and are now retired here.
I would challenge any other town of comparable size to equal what we have here. Our hospital is excellent, our police and fire departments are excellent as well. City services and street maintenance are not lacking. Three parks, two walking tracks, good baseball/softball and tennis courts are enjoyed by all.
Industry in our town has come and stayed as well as come and gone. This scenario plays out in larger towns and cities around us. Alcohol has not cured their problems. Louisville, which is not just moist but totally wet is losing jobs. Jewish Hospital has just announced that 500 jobs are being done away with. UPS has had many cuts in their labor force. Ford is struggling to keep their plants in Louisville open. KY Kingdom at this time has closed and Humana has trimmed its company in Louisville. These are just the larger and more noticeable losses of jobs in Louisville.
My husband and I bought a post retirement business in Louisville. We choose to drive the 140 miles to be able to live in Leitchfield without alcohol rather than Louisville where alcohol is a problem.
Many of us know someone who has lost a dear friend or family to a drunk in Grayson County. Having the alcohol more accessible in a moist Leitchfield cannot help but increase those catastrophes because a person will go to a restaurant drinking with a meal and leave the restaurant under the influence of alcohol just consumed.
I am also opposed to the idea of a moist Leitchfield because of my religious convictions. The bible is clear on this subject. There are many passages of scripture that warn us about the evils of alcohol. I will only offer two for your consideration, Galatians 5:21 and I Peter 4:3.
