One local daycare has joined in the relief effort for the victims of the earthquake that destroyed Haiti.

The children of The Educational Ladder are trying to help the families that have suffered a loss because of the devastating earthquake that rocked Haiti on January 12.

“We are taking donations of clothing, baby formula, toys, non perishable items or anything that a family might be able to use in Haiti,” said event organizer Amber Ford. “We are also having our kids make cards for the children there.”

The idea for the came after Ford was watching the news and learned of a daycare that was destroyed and everyone one inside the daycare died.

“I thought about our kids and our daycare and it just made me sad,” said Ford. “I wanted to help in some way so I contacted the Red Cross to see what we could do and came up with the idea of ‘Kids Helping Haiti: Little people with a big cause.’”

Ford has gotten the other employees and the parents of the children of the Educational Ladder involved by asking for donations of any kind to take to the Red Cross and forwarded to the victims of Haiti.

“We began taking donations on January 28 and continue through February 19,” said Ford. “Anyone can drop off items off at Educational Ladder at 610 Mill Street and if you can not drop the items off I can arrange to have them picked up.”

For more information contact Ford at the Educational Ladder (270) 230-7346 or by calling (270) 259-0211.
