Leitchfield Bel Brands USA Manager, Francine Moudry, attended the meeting and shared with the council her company’s expansion plans.
The plant currently employs 329 employees and will add an additional 40 employees to their workforce.
“We are adding a third shift to the Laughing Cow line by March 1,” said Moudry. “ We have taken 200 applications and will hire 40 people from them.”
Moudry added the company is currently working on a project that is much larger and has been working with Grayson County Industrial Consultant Dudley Cooper as well as state officials.
The cheese plant will celebrate the fact that the plant has been in Leitchfield 40 years on June 25th and invited council members to attend the celebration.

• The council voted to make no change to the railroad crossing on Brandenburg Road.
The special called meeting was held after a representative from the Paducah & Louisville Railway, Inc voiced concerns about the railroad crossing at Brandenburg Road.
“The railroad crossing on Old Brandenburg Road was a dangerous crossing because the road was so steep and several trucks have gotten stuck over the years,” said Lawrence Russell from P & L Railroad. “We believe that this road crossing is a potentially dangerous crossing for motorists as well as employees of the railroad,”
Russell added, “although the crossing is currently protected by flashing lights, due to the steep hill the sight distance in either direction is inadequate and the hazard is great.”
Residents that live on the road were concerned that closing the entryway would cause problems on the street.
