We are confronted with a serious problem in our community. Though the push is to allow the sale of alcohol by the drink, (I never saw anyone try to drink two at a time), in the city of Leitchfield only, we as residents of Grayson County are greatly effected also.
It must be realized that this is the first step to becoming a wet county and we must stand against this evil influence that lurks at our doors.
For every one that wants to see our city polluted with the alcohol problem, there are for who don’t, but we we must not just say we don’t, we must act.
Some feel that by allowing alcohol to be served in the city restaurants, it would boost the economy. This is far from the truth, it is a known fact that for every dollar alcohol generates it takes four dollars for our law enforcement to battle the terrible problem.
Grayson County is now a dry county and Leitchfield a dry city, we must strive to remain that way.
In recent times we have heard the push for public places to become smoke free and I suppose that may be a good direction, but to replace it with alcohol, is that the answer? Heaven forbid that we allow a few to muddy the waters of the clear springs of our wonderful county.
This is a moral issue and it is time for the good people of Grayson County to let it be known that this isn’t what we want. Christians we must declare we don’t want alcohol to dirty our town.
A lady recently told me (who is now well up in years) that when she was a little girl she was walking around the square in Leitchfield with her mother and at the time Grayson was a wet county. There was a bar on the south side of the court square and as they passed the bar a drunk staggered out the door and fell against her and knocked her down. She said please don’t let this be repeated again in our town.
Friends, this is the direction that a few wants us to go here in Leitchfield. I call on Leitchfield and Grayson County to help keep this evil influence from coming to our town and eventually our county.
I pray that God will help us all see this must not happen, do all you can to prevent it!
At present the city of Leitchfield does not have a restaurant large enough to meet the qualifications for the sale of alcohol. New restaurants are fine, but don’t bring the bar with you!
