There was no need to call 911 Wednesday night, because area doctors were just doing their part to raise funds for kids for Christmas.

A packed house filled the room, in support of those volunteering to guest serve at Farmer’s Feedmill Restaurant in Leitchfield.

Manager Jill Blankenship explained on Friday that the business had already raised close to $2,000 for the cause.

All donations and tips from the week will be used to purchase enough gifts for 25 families.

Each year several local celebrities, as Blankenship calls it, set aside time to guest host or serve at the restaurant.

Some of the others who volunteered this year were local priests, pastors, postal workers, employees with the News-Gazette, Leitchfield police officers and Leitchfield firemen.

Also to get into the spirit of the week, employees with the restaurant, dressed in costume for respective departments serving on that day.

Blankenship said it has been a fun time for everyone involved.

The gifts will be handed out to needs-based families on December 17.
