With more 45,000 lights dancing across the rooftop and yard it is hard to miss the dancing light show at a Leitchfield home that has become a holiday tradition for several Grayson County Families.

During the day the house at the end of 120 Crossridge Drive looks like any other house but from 5:30 – 10 p.m. each night the lights come on for a show that is unlike any other in the county.

Leitchfield residents Chad and Gwen Franich turn their home into a Christmas light program each year, where thousands of lights are strung on the house and yard. Those lights dance to the music of Christmas carols on the 95.5 FM dial of any radio.

Franich began to decorate his home with lights in honor of his mom, who has passed away, and now he does it just because so many people in the county enjoy the show.

“This year the show came very close to not happening. My computer crashed and I had to redesign the whole show,” said Franich. “So if you had it recorded last year you will see a completely different show this year.

“When I started this I did not think it would get this big and I probably would not continue to do it but everyone seems to enjoy it so much that I put it up again this year.”

The neighbors do not complain about the blinking lights, many of them enjoy the show and decorate their own yards.

Joyce Bangtson is one of the residents in the Crossridge Subdivision, just off Sunbeam roads, that enjoys the musical performance each year.

“I am so proud of Chad and Gwen for this production,” said Bangston. “I have never seen anything like it, except on television. I brought the little girl home from church that lives next door to Gwen and while we were driving I asked if the lights bothered them much.”

Franich downloads Christmas carols and then programs his laptop to light up the lights at different beats to the songs that are played through the radio on the FM broadcaster he bought for the show.

When asked about the cost of doing such a production he laughs and says, “I have no idea how much money I have invested in the lights but I tell people I could probably have bought four 4-wheelers for what I have spent.”

When the show was set up Gwen sent out emails to several friends and family members who are interested in watching the show and received several comments about how much people enjoy the show.

“Our whole family always includes a trip to your light show as part of our holiday tradition. Your family should be applauded for providing this Christmas cheer to everyone,” said Leon and Charlotte Shaw. “I know it takes weeks to put together and is very expensive. We always urge our friends to leave a little something in your box as they leave.”
