The Rotary Club Radio Auction reported another successful year of fundraising, collecting $6,718 during the three-night event.

There was over $11,000 worth of auction items donated for this year’s fundraiser.

The auction was held in the basement of Wilson Muir Bank’s main branch, located on South Main Street in Leitchfield, on October 20-22.

Rotary Club Secretary Jonathan Decker explained the overall totals for 2009 were down $535 from last year.

“Final numbers are still being tabulated,” Decker said, “but unofficial numbers at this point look to show the auction being down only slightly from 2008. This was a pleasant surprise to the club with some issues with the economy, and all of the other festivals and auctions going on this time of year. But this just proves, once again, how generous the people of Grayson County are.”

Next year’s auction is planned for May 11-13. The reason the club decided to change the date is to relieve some financial strain on local businesses and other donors.

“Our club has seen this strain on the community,” Decker urged, “and has decided to try to ease some of this burden by changing the date of our event. Our hope is that will help our community, and allow donors to help other community events in the fall.”
