“We have made three arrests involved in the burglary at Farmer’s Market on September 12,” said Leitchfield Detective Gary Troutman. “There was a safe taken and some petty cash.”
Vance Gibson, Jr., 26 of Leitchfield was charged with third-degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking under $500. Gibson was being held at the Grayson County Detention Center on other non-related charges at the time the warrant was issued, reported Troutman.
John Hanshaw, 24, of Leitchfield and Jonathon Clark, 19 were both charged with tampering with physical evidence.
“These two were charged like this because they were trying to move or conceal the safe that was stolen from Farmer’s,” said Troutman.
In a separate case Troutman reported on March 5, a female entered Wilson and Muir’s main branch bank and cashed a check for $5703.02 while a second female was trying to cash the same kind of check in the amount of $5712.22 at the branch office on HWY 62. The second check was denied and no money was dispersed, reported Troutman.
“We have learned that Brittany Spence, 22 of Louisville cashed the check at the main branch and Merceldez Barton, 21 of Louisville was the woman at the branch office.” said Troutman.
Both women will be charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, which is a class D felony. Warrants have been issued for the two and police have been notified in the Louisville area.
The third case the police have solved involves a Lexington woman. Betty Jones, 54, who allegedly walked into Gate Food and Gas on Main Street on January 18 and cashed a check for $373.23.
“Through video surveillance tapes and teletype other agencies I was able to identify Jones,” said Troutman. “She was going throughout the state cashing checks. She will be brought to Grayson County after they are finished with her in Lexington.”
A warrant was issued charging Jones with criminal second-degree possession of a forged instrument.
