A local teen is facing four counts of assault and one count of manslaughter after blood tests proved drunk driving may have been a factor in fatal crash in Caneyville.
The charges stem from an accident that claimed the life of 65- year-old Henry M. Casey of Caneyville on April 21.
According to a report from Kentucky State Police Trooper Norman Chaffins, Trevor Edwards, Falls of Rough, was traveling north on Watershed Road when he lost control of the 1998 Ford Ranger he was driving.
“He was going too fast as he came around the corner and when he hit his brakes the truck skidded head-on into the Nissan Altima that Casey was a passenger in,” said Chaffins.
“The teen admitted he had been drinking alcohol and agreed to a blood test.”
Chaffins added. There were four occupants in the Altima, the driver, Elmer C. Stewart, Jr., Casey and two children.
Stewart, along with both children and the passenger of the truck were flown by LifeNet from Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center to University of Louisville Hospital.
Stewart suffered several broken bones and internal injuries, the four-year old child in the back seat suffered a broken pelvis and the three-year-old fractured a femur bone. Neither of the children suffered life-threatening injuries.
Casey died on the way to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.
The passenger of the truck, Joshua Long, 20, suffered broken bones and his injuries were non-life threatening. He was flown from an area hospital to a Louisville hospital later Tuesday evening. Edwards suffered minor injuries.
“The blood alcohol test results showed .05 percent alcohol in Edward’s blood stream but the drug toxicology resulted proved there were no other drugs in his system,” said Chaffins. “There may also be charges pending on the adults who provided the minor with alcohol.”
Because Edwards was 17-years-old at the time of the accident the charges were filed in the juvenile courts but the charges meet the criteria of the Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) to send the case to circuit court. Edwards may be tried as a youthful offender in the adult courts.
Having read these comments ( I am not uncaring nor am I not aware that children were hurt) and I am aware that a human was killed.
But what are the facts? What happened that day?
(RUMOR) is the vehicle of the individuals that was killed/children hurt were on the wrong side of the road--as I said rumor.
Rumor, Rumor, Rumors, always RUMORES but what is the fact? Do not make a false claim or draw a false opinion with out facts?
As I said (under the law "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW" and a jury of peers (12) have to agree on this. That is the laws of our land and this is what we live by to avoid havoc and chaos.
To these two individuals shell41200-----and actually... guess by your comments here he is already tried and convicted without any ( FACTS)
AND I AM TO ASSUME THAT YOU NEVER MADE A MISTAKE IN YOUR LIFE AND YOU STAND BEFORE ALL (PERFECT)?
Trying a case in public opinion is not the law so here is some thought to ponder--"If a person goes to a tavern and drinks and the owner knows the individual is intoxicated and lets them leave and drive/is the driver at fault? or is the tavern owner for letting this individual drive away knowing how many alcoholic drinks were consumed and in what time period is the tavern owner responsible? May surprise you to find out the answer ( the tavern owner could be charged with involuntary manslaughter)
Okay I expect more out of adults then I do children.
MAY WE REMEMBER THAT WE ARE A DEFECTIVE LOT OF HUMANS THAT ARE EARTH BOUND/PERFECTION IS NOT OURS AT THIS TIME/AND MISTAKES WE ALL MAKE AND ALL MISTAKES ARE NO LESS OR GREATER THEN THE NEXT PERSONS MISTAKE/AND THAT IS THE JUST OF LIFE/AND WE ARE ALL OF EQUAL RANKS ( WE ARE ALL DEFECTIVE)!
SO WHEN POINTING A FINGER AT THIS CHILD/REMEMBER YOU HAVE FOUR BACK AT YOU/ AND HOW MANY SKELETONS ARE IN YOUR CLOSET?
AND THE REASON NO ONE KNOWS AT THIS TIME WHO SOLD THE ALCOHOL TO TREVOR, IS BECAUSE TREVOR EDWARDS AND JOSH LONG HAS NOT COME FORWARD WITH THAT INFORMATION.
(Innocent Until Proven Guilty In A Court Of Law By A Jury Of His Peers)!!!!! Why I have you failed to list this to the readers to remind them of what the law says?
And this story does not read like the info I have heard about how this happened.
I AM WONDERING WHAT ABOUT THE PERSON THAT PROVIDED THIS MINOR WITH THE ALCOHOL AND THEN STOOD BY AND LET THEM DRIVE AWAY!!!!!
No name has ever been mentioned of the adults whom provided the alcohol ( evidently to report that there were adults that provided this alcohol--you must have researched this info and you must know whom the adults were/IF YOU CAN LIST THE NAME OF A MINOR IN THE PAPER AS YOU DID WHEN THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED/why not list the ADULTS NAME THAT GAVE THE MINORS THE ALCOHOL?
( it is evident they are not minors)!!!
At this time all this is in fact is speculation of what happened and the true facts will not come out until a trial is held. Right?
Facts/Source of Facts/ Evidence/ that is what a trial will detail.
And until that time / with this report the child was not intoxicated--he was under the limit of intoxication/ and only time will tell the "rest of the story"
MY PRAYERS ARE FOR TREVOR AND HIS ENTIRE FAMILY AND EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS.
"STAND ON THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE"
GOD BLESS!!!!!
