Officers with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police and Leitchfield Police worked together to locate the marijuana plants growing in the county.
Drug abuse is still on the rise in Grayson County, but local law enforcement is continuing to crack down on the problem.
On August 5 it was especially busy for the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department with officers finding 400 marijuana plants and destroying them, arresting one man for manufacturing meth and another for possession a rolling meth lab.
Sheriff Rick Clemons advised the marijuana plants were discovered through a series of investigations by the Kentucky State Police and the Sheriff’s Department.
KSP Captain Brian Carwile flew over Grayson County in a helicopter with KSP Trooper Kevin Henderson to locate the drugs, which were found in the southeastern part of the county. According to Clemons, the KSP Drug Eradication team, led by Sergeant Jeremy Thompson, flew with a spotter that directed ground crews to the location.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Sheriff’s Department Detective Terry Blanton and Leitchfield Police Officer Braxton Allen assisted KSP with the discover of the marijuana plants.
In another incident on Wednesday, Charles Russell, 46 of Leitchfield was arrested by warrant and charged with manufacturing of meth-first offense.
Russell is currently being held in the Grayson County Detention Center on a $50,000 full cash bond.
Clemons explained a warrant was obtained for Russell’s arrest after he had been connected to a meth crime involving Jeff Critchelow.
A meth lab was also located in the southwestern part of the county on Wednesday. No arrests have been made at this time, but the meth lab was destroyed. The investigation is still ongoing.
The last arrest occurred at 10:30 p.m. when Deputy Jeff Kelsey attempted to stop a car for speeding, and ended up discovering a meth lab in the speeder’s vehicle.
Richard Decker, 43 of Leitchfield was arrested and charged with speeding 15 mph over limit, manufacturing methamphetamine and resisting arrest.
Decker is currently being held in the Grayson County Detention Center on a $50,000 full cash bond.
The KSP Drug Enforcement Special Investigations unit was called out to do meth cleanup, and Anneta Fire Department stood by to assist if needed.
Sheriff’s Detective Terry Blanton also assisted Kelsey on the call.
“I am very thankful for the assistance of other agencies in the round ups and traffic stops,” said Clemons.
