Caneyville dealing with wastewater plant issues

The Caneyville City Commission discussed the fourth phase of the sewer upgrade during Monday night meeting, July 12.

The commission received an update from Kenviron representative Vern Shanklin presented the commission an update regarding the waste water treatment plant. There is a problem causing the plant to go septic.

Both the Division of Water and Kentucky Rural Water have been working with Avery Fleener on the situation and have advised the clarifier and ditches need to be cleaned.

The commission informed Shanklin this was an emergency situation that needed attention immediately. Shanklin stated he would contact Division of Water this week regarding this problem, as well as the additional plant rehab. He also stated DOW will be

provided with a set of plans within the next 45 days. Shanklin will also be sending the

City of Caneyville a new work order for Kenvirons on this phase of our project.

Fleener also reported to the commission that there are a few items from the ManHole Project that Luttrell’s need to complete before the final pay estimate can be submitted. Those items include; such as control panel needs to be re-set, flow meter set up and calibrated, weir channel needs work to prevent flow from splashing out and some minor electrical work.

Ashley Willoughby reported there is not be enough time to submit a CDBG application for cleaning of the plant but can submit one for the remainder of the rehab work.

In other business:

• The commission adopted the Nuisance Ordinance.

• The City Clerk Brenda Brown reported 10 sponsor have been sold for the five signs that will be erected at the entrances of the city.

• The commission agreed to award the 2008-09 audit work to Buckles, Travis and Sloan at a cost not to exceed $6,825 and the UFR at

a cost not to exceed $475.

• The motion was made and accepted to purchase 126 new meters from Grayson County Water District at a cost of $29.60 for a totaling $3,729.60.

• The commission agreed to purchase a new computer for City Hall, rather than do an upgrade.

• City Commissioners Deborah Embry and Janice Minton agreed to attend the Grayson County Bicentennial Committee meeting July 22 to discuss the upcoming 200th anniversary of Grayson County in 2010.
