Check presentation and words of praise were part of the Leitchfield City Council Monday, July 6.

The final details of t ahe 2009 Freedom Fest were given to the council after Danny Willis from Dan Power Chevrolet, Sue Sims, from Agency One and Tony’ Swift from Premier Restoration presented the council with checks in support of activities that will take place at the middle school this weekend.

Green Farm Resort and Auto Smart had present checks earlier in the day.

Event organizer Ken Roberts updated the council with the latest information and details about the celebration.

With carnival rides, a car show, a beauty pageant and live entertainment along with many other events scheduled there will be plenty to keep people entertained.

Leitchfield Mayor William H. Thomason praised Roberts for the volunteer work he and his brother have done organizing the festival.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Ken and Joe Roberts for the outstanding job they are doing in organizing the 2009 Freedom Fest,” said Thomason. “Many of our local businesses and community leaders have really stepped up to help make this year’s festival a tremendous success. For many years, the Ice Cream Festival has drawn a large crowd and we are thrilled to be able to continue the festival and begin new traditions. The pool will continue to be open for ‘dollar days’ this year.”

The mayor went on to add, “Adults and children may purchase admission to the pool for $1.00 until close at 4:00 pm. The weekend is packed with all kinds of community events including fireworks, entertainment, rides, a car show, skating events and different kinds of booths from arts and crafts to kids’ activities to really great food.

“We intended to provide an event for our community by our community and I would really like to thank everyone in Leitchfield and Grayson County for helping to make that vision a success. Thank you again and I hope everyone is able to come out and have a great time.”

The festivities will begin on Friday afternoon and continue through Sunday at the Grayson County Middle School.
