Rough River Business and Tourism Director Charlie Corbet said all outlets worked closely together to pull off Saturday night’s Fourth of July event.
Melrose Fireworks Display, based out of Springfield, KY, was in constant communication with all outlets to make the display take place.
“They were willing to do whatever they could to make the show happen,” he explained. “I was watching the radar closely every 10-15 minutes. We made the decision before 9 p.m. that the show must go on.”
Corbet explained that it was not an option to postpone the display. There were a lot of boaters who came in to camp out for the weekend just for the fireworks display.
“Melrose got there and set up in the rain,” he mentioned. “They kept waiting for the opportunity to set off the fireworks. It was delayed 40 minutes, because of us having to wait on weather conditions. We were quite pleased with how everything turned out.”
According to Corbet, it cost $13,000 to pull off the annual event.
