A newly appointed recreation board was announced at the Caneyville City Commission meeting Monday April 13.

Robert Richardson addressed the commission and gave a status report about the Caneyville ball program and the community park.

The recreation board consists of Robert Richardson as president, David Gary as

vice-president and Robin Richardson as treasurer.

They currently have 75 children signed up to play in the program, consisting of four Tee ball teams, one baseball team and one softball team.

The board presented a list of needs it felt were important for the community park. The list consisted of; fence repair, roofing of the dugouts, concession stand and scoring booths, gates for the entrances, placement of additional picnic tables and the removal of an old equipment building that is no longer useable.

The members also asked the commission to remove the bars and the fencing from the play area and use the fence to make repairs to fencing on the fields. They felt this was a dangerous area for the children and thought the picnic tables would be a better alternative.

The board is in the process of selling and updating the signs on the fields and will be hosting a tournament to raise money for the program.

Admission will be free for children under five-year-olds and $1 for six-year-olds and older.

The Grayson County Detention Center has agreed to help with painting and pressure washing. The inmates will also be keeping the field mowed, as had been done in previous years.

The commission agreed to review the list and decide what the city can do to help with the program. The commissioners did give them permission to tear the old equipment room down and remove the bars and fencing from the play area.

The commission agreed that Commissioners Deborah Embry and Scott Majors would meet with the board at the park later in the week to further determine what work needs to be completed.

The commission also thanked the board for their work and willingness to continue with the ball program.

It was agreed that the rental fee and deposit fee for the tournaments David Gary is organizing to raise money for the ball program would be waved.
