Want to get healthier, come to the third annual Healthy Heart Expo, held on March 30 at the Centre on Main.

The event, which starts at 3 p.m. on Monday, is free of charge to the public.

Visitors will receive free health screenings on blood pressure, oxygen saturation, glucose, and a carotid artery ultrasound. A lipid profile cholesterol screening will be available for a small fee.

Other information will be handed out to be people on that day about exercise for children, nutrition, and smoking cessation. Jewish Hospital will also be on location with information on their heart program.

Screenings are from 3-4 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.

Dr. Bart Dawson and Dr. Denis Raleigh will speak from 4-5 p.m. to the public on living a healthier lifestyle.

The event is sponsored by the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.

“We moved it (the expo) to later in the afternoon to make it possible for more working people to participate,” said Twin Lakes Chief Operating Officer Deneace Clemons. “We’re also hoping it is late enough in the month where the weather won’t be a problem for anyone.”

Clemons said the staff at the hospital hopes to build on the success of the 2008 event.

“We had a tremendous turn out,” Clemons explained. “Over 140 area residents took advantage of the expo last year, even though the day was very cold and icy. We’ve put a lot of effort into making this year’s Healthy Heart Expo even better.”
