Grayson County resident Christopher Schenk was arrested on Monday afternoon, February 25, in Bowling Green and is accused of having committed bank robberies in cities across the state.
45-year-old Schenk had arrest warrants out from both Fayette and Daviess Counties and is suspected of having recently robbed at least two banks in Bowling Green and one in Paducah as well, according to Detective Steve McCown.
Schenk was reportedly armed in at least one of the accused robberies.
McCown said on Friday morning, “We’re still trying to figure it all out and see if there are others.”
Schenk was arrested at Western Hills Motel on Morgantown Road in Bowling Green by the Bowling Green Police Department after being tracked to Warren County by US Marshalls and Lexington law enforcement, according to Paducah-area television station KFVS12.
Schenk was transferred to the Daviess County Detention Center early Tuesday morning, where he is being held on two counts of robbery in the first degree and one count of robbery in the second degree. A representative of the detention center said that Schenk’s charges are listed as being out of Daviess, McCracken and Fayette Counties.
According to reports by Fayette County’s Lex18 news crew, Schenk walked away from an Elizabethtown bank with $1,000 in 1996 and later told police that it was to cover the $700 he lost the day before on a gambling boat in Indiana.
