To the Editor:

The Grayson County Middle School eighth grade Lady Cougars basketball team won the Green River Valley Conference at Hancock County on Thursday, Dec. 6. There were eight teams that competed Dec. 1 through Dec. 6.

After long cheering from supporters, the Cougars were awarded medals, a large trophy, then claimed the basketball net by having each of the players take their turn cutting off a piece of it. They got to keep the net pieces for their own personal victory, along with their medals.

The Lady Cougars were honored by our Grayson County superintendent Barry Anderson, and several other school officials and coaches from other teams were present also. After all, this great winning team will be our leaders of tomorrow.

A very special thanks to our two coaches, Stacy Downs and Lori Oller, for their time and dedication!

The trip home was escorted by several police cars and fire trucks with all the lights and sirens on. After circling around town, the large party came back to Hardees for a late-night snack and more celebrating.

To all that made this possible, thank you a million times. These girls will never, never forget this night. As being a great-grandmother to one of the players, and attending all the games, I was so humbled to witness this victorious celebration!
