Four local area bluegrass bands will take the stage Saturday, Dec. 15, for the Grayson County Bluegrass Opry’s upcoming show.

This show will feature a little bit of the Christmas spirit in the true bluegrass style. Headlining the lineup is the RiverBottom Bluegrass Band of Western Kentucky. This veteran group has been performing together since April 2004, and its sound is an exciting mixture of old and new songs in both the traditional and progressive style.

Members of the RiverBottom Bluegrass Band include Jeff Johnson, of Owensboro, who provides lead vocals and some solid rhythm guitar playing. Bass player Roger Lucas of Hardinsburg maintains a rock-solid beat that serves as the foundation for the band, and his brother Bobby Lucas, also of Hardinsburg, lends a smooth baritone to the group’s vocal harmonies while also playing guitar. Gary Evans of Owensboro is a master of the 5-string banjo and provides the “drive” for the band’s music. Rich Schauer of Southern Indiana is the band’s talented mandolin picker and tenor singer. And the newest member of the band is Melanie Belfiore of Vine Grove, who plays the fiddle and also is an outstanding buck dancer.

Also performing that evening will be the very popular McDonald Road Band of Leitchfield, the Almost Home Band of Hardin County, and the host band Hickory Grove, of Leitchfield.

The show will be held at 6 p.m. on the third floor of the Old Judicial Building, at 125 East White Oak St. in Leitchfield. Admission is free.
