To the Editor:

Sunday, Sept. 23, was such a beautiful sunny fall day, just the type of day small children would probably love to be at the park with their parents.

Leitchfield Councilman Steve Elder, instead of enjoying family time with his family, chose to go along with Councilman Billy Dallas to a property located at 512 Hilltop Road and do some “yard work” on this “nuisance” property.

Both had their trucks there, with Mr. Elder’s having a “Vote for Steve Elder” sign located inside the bed. The sign is quite large, so you cannot miss it. Mr. Dallas has his political sign on the door of his truck, which is much more palatable.

Don’t let yourself be fooled — this was a purely political move on their part to garner some votes and show they are concerned about the city’s appearance. My question is this: Why have they waited so long to do something about this property? Clayton Miller had brought this to the city council’s attention in June 2010. Some residents in the area had asked him to help get something done. When he presented it to the council, Mayor William Thomason said he would have it taken care of and the grass was mowed. Now, all of a sudden it is an issue.

The council seems to be a little more nervous about their seats this time than ever before. They are hoping we voters will forget how they have just rammed things through, even though there were objections galore from their constituents.

We have a good choice of candidates to choose from in this election. I hope and pray it will not be just “business as usual” in January 2013.

Remember, you don’t have to vote for six — you can vote for only one if you so desire. Please vote!

Ann Huff

It sure looks purely political!! screw it around, talk about people, but it still looks purely political! Have you seen them do this type of work since being elected? Purely for politics!!

To Steven Elder. I just arrived home from work and saw Ann Huff's letter and your Facebook response. I want to say it has been a privilege to have you as a fellow councilman. Whenever a professional person like you moves to our community and makes their home here, we all benefit. But when someone like you who gets involved and strives to improve upon what he sees is where the real benefits are. You have been a driving force for most of the improvements that will make our city a better place for all. Our mutual service to the city gives me a special insight into your character and love for your family. I know and serve with Steven and am PROUD to say he is also a friend This "assassination" of you is way over the line. I hope the people of Leitchfield will remember this attempt to smear your name.

I was able to meet and work with Steven Elder for nearly three months this year during the fiddle festival. Even during the busy times he always took time out for his wife and children and I could see that he was a fine upstanding man who loves his family deeply. A character assassination like Ms. Huff has done is deplorable and she should be ashamed of herself. Judge not that ye be not judged, Ms. Huff.

I was actually intrigued by this letter to the editor - at first. As someone who moved back to Leitchfield after five years of living out of state and has recently become more interested in politics, I was curious to see an article about those running for City Council.

That was, until I saw the signature line. If there is one thing I've realized it's that Ann Huff seems to have a lot of opinions but no real substance to them. And, by no means, am I defending Elder or Dallas or siding with Miller.

The most notable opinion I read about of Huff's is the railroad crossing on Brandenburg Road. Every time this comes up she likes to stick her two cents in as a local resident. Maybe she should waltz on out to the tracks at night to flag down tractor trailers before they become stuck. Obviously the signs are not helping and a train hitting a tractor trailer at any speed is a hazard to nearby residents.

I don't know what her agenda is with the tracks or why she so desperately wants to see them remain open.

Maybe after her crushing defeat in the primaries, the railroad crossing is the only way she can remain relevant.

Sore loser much?
