Two Caneyville teens were “extremely blessed” to be able to walk away from a one-vehicle accident on Monday morning, according to Grayson County Sheriff Rick Clemons.

The accident occurred on Beaver Dam Road approximately one mile west of the city of Leitchfield at around 11:44 a.m., according to the accident report.

17-year-old Dustin D. Parks was opearting a 2001 Dodge Ram pick-up truck, travelling westward when he apparently hit a pool of water on the roaway and lost control of the truck.

Parks’ vehicle dropped off of the outside shoulder of the road before moving back across the roadway, striking a ditch and overturning in a nearby parking lot.

The vehicle came to a rest on its top, and Clemons said that Park and his passenger, 15-year-old Deanna Parks, were both able to exit the vehicle on their own.

Both of the occupants of the vehicle were treated and taken to Twin Lakes REgional Medical Center by Grayson County EMS.

The driver suffered possile back injuries, while the passenger was found to have possible neck injuries.

Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Clemons said that the wreck was a “true situation where seatbelts saved lives.”
