Familiar names will be on the ballot Nov. 6 in many areas of Grayson County — along with a few newcomers.

Candidates filed earlier this month for the city commission races in Caneyville and Clarkson, and ballot positions for those races — as well as the Leitchfield City Council and Grayson County School Board contests — were selected Thursday.

In Caneyville, incumbent commissioners Janice Minton, Scott Majors, Deborah Embry and Connie Gootee are running unopposed for their respective seats.

Minton drew the first ballot position in the races for the two-year terms, with Embry drawing the second position, Majors the third and Gootee the fourth.

In Clarkson, incumbent commissioners Kay Gibson, Bob Vincent, Scotty Gore and Keith Higson are also running unopposed for their respective two-year terms.

Gore drew the first ballot position, Higdon the second, Gibson the third and Vincent the fourth.

In Leitchfield, 12 people are seeking six available seats on the city council. Incumbents Margaret Alvey-Fey, Raymond “Tooty” Cottrell, Billy Dallas, Steven Elder, Leon Shaw and Kelly Stevenson will face challengers Margie Decker, Clayton Miller, Harold Miller, Rick Minton, Nick Ramsey and Jerry Schlosser for the two-year terms.

Ramsey drew the first ballot position, Harold Miller the second, Alvey-Fey the third, Decker the fourth, Cottrell the fifth, Dallas the sixth, Shaw the seventh, Schlosser the eighth, Minton the ninth, Stevenson the tenth, Elder the eleventh and Clayton Miller the twelth.

The Grayson County Board of Education will see contested races for two of its seats. Incumbent Valeria Hayes Hicks will face off with Matthew Wiseman for the District 1 seat, which represents the eastern portion of the county in the Big Clifty-Clarkson area.

Incumbent Charlotte Gower will vie with William Allen for the District 2 seat, which represents the area south and west of Leitchfield. Allen held the seat in 2008, but lost in that election to Terry Mudd. Mudd held the seat until 2010, when he resigned and was replaced by Gower.

Hayes Hicks drew the first ballot position in the District 1 race, and Allen the first ballot position in the District 2 race.

Carolyn Thomason is running unopposed for the District 4 seat.
