A Morgantown man was arrested in Grayson County for the theft of a front door on Wednesday, August 15.
According to Grayson County Sheriff Rick Clemons, it was ‘thanks to the quick wits of a neighbor,’ who noticed the unusual activity and notified the homeowners, who then contacted the Sheriff’s Department.
A vehicle fitting the description given by the neighbor was spotted in Butler County, and Clemons, along with Trooper Bryan McKinney, of Kentucky State Police’s Bowling Green Post, apprehended the thief.
49-year-old Michael E. Lee admitted to having entered a Falls of Rough Road home approximately 3.6 miles north of the city of Caneyville, where he removed the door from its hinges and took it.
The door was thought to be valued at around $550.
According to the arrest warrant filed, Lee exhibited remorse for the theft, stating that he was ‘very, very, very sorry’ for the crime.
Lee was charged with burglary in the second degree, theft by unlawful taking, and criminal mischief in the second degree. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
According to Clemons, the GCSD is currently investigating a number of burglaries, the bulk of which are in the western end of the county.
He continued on to say that keeping an eye out for others in your community is an important step in stopping incidents like these from occurring, and asking that everyone ‘please help take care of your neighbors.’
