One man was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville, and two others were injured in a head-on collision on Peonia Road in Clarkson on Tuesday, July 10.
The accident occurred at approximately 1:43 p.m. on Peonia Road, where a 2004 Dodge Dakota being driven by 72-year-old Ambrose E. Smith, of Huffman Road in Leitchfield, crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle, according to the report filed by Detective Jeff Kelsey, of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department.
The occupants of the other vehicle, a 2011 Dodge Ram, which was licensed to the Kentucky Department of Transportation, told the officer at the scene that they saw Smith’s Dodge coming toward them and moved over into the ditch line, but were still unable to avoid the crash which injured three people.
Smith, who suffered incapacitating chest injuries during the accident, was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be extricated by the Clarkson Volunteer Fire Department. He was treated at the scene by Grayson County EMS and transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center before being flown to University of Louisville Hospital.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, 40-year-old Charles S. Bradley, of Peonia Road in Clarkson, suffered arm injuries, according to the report; while the passenger in his vehicle, 60-year-old James Snyder, of Watershed Road in Millwood, suffered similar injuries.
