A Grayson County man who died in a car crash in Ohio County on Sunday night, June 10, was identified five days after the accident, according to the Ohio County Coroner.
40-year-old Dexter Coleman England, Jr., of Falls of Rough, was reportedly travelling eastbound on Highway 54 in Fordsville at a high rate of speed when the 1993 Toyota truck he was operating left the roadway and hit two sets of trees before becoming engulfed in flames.
Once first responders had extinguished the fire, England was pulled from the vehicle. A press release stated, however, that by this point, he was “burned beyond recognition,” and no positive identification was able to be made until Friday, June 15.
The Coroner, Larry Bevil, along with the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department worked diligently to identify the crash victim, but were slowed by the nature of the accident, which rendered some traditional identification techniques unusable.
