Twelve indicted in Circuit Court

Eleven men and one woman were indicted in Circuit Court on charges resulting from eight separate incidences in Grayson County.

James Paul, 24, of Claggett Road in Leitchfield, was indicted on charges of rape in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree, and assault in the first degree.

Paul’s indictment comes from a February 24 incident during which he is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse through the use of forcible compulsion, subjecting a person to sexual contact through forcible compulsion, and intentionally causing that same person serious physical injury by means of his fists.

Aubrey Dewayne Russell, 25, of Heyser Drive in Leitchfield, was indicted on two charges which include escape in the second degree and being a persistent felony offender in the first degree.

The charges relate to a February 22 incident during which Russell is accused of walking away from his inmate work detail with Head Start in Leitchfield. He was, at the time, serving a sentence at the Grayson County Detention Center.

Michael L. Bartlett, 45, of Goff Drive in Leitchfield, was indicted on a charge of assault in the first degree. The assault charge stems from an incident which allegedly occurred on February 26 in which Bartlett intentionally caused physical injury to David Hockenbury by stabbing him with a sharp object.

Jeremiah A. Dailey, 23, of Indianapolis, IN; Austin McCowin, 24, of Guston; and Joseph A. Phelps, 24, of Morgantown, were each indicted on a charge of trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree.

The charges stems from a March 26 incident in which Dailey, McCowin and Phelps allegedly had morphine in their possession for the purpose of sale or transfer.

Michael W. Graham, 38, of New Albany, IN, was indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property valued at under $10,000 after a February 11 incident in which Graham allegedly retained a trike motorcycle which had been stolen from Andrew Lee, of Grayson County.

Jeffery A. Carter was listed as a co-defendant in this case.

Nicholas Shaw, 31, of Cave Mill Court in Leitchfield, was indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property valued under $10,000. The charge is related to an incident that allegedly occurred on February 14, 2011 in which Shaw purportedly received a Rolex diamond ring which had been stolen from Lee Weedman.

Phildon D. Wooden, 30, of Brandenburg Road in Leitchfield, and Brenda J. Wooden, also of Brandenburg Road in Leitchfield, were each indicted on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Phildon Wooden was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance in the first degree.

Their charges stem from a March 13 incident in which they allegedly committed the offense of manufacturing the illegal drug methamphetamine.

James K. VanMeter, 41, of Brandenburg Road in Leitchfield, was a co-defendant in case with Wooden and Wooden. His charges, which resulted from the same incident, include manufacturing m methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

Brian A. Willis, 31, of Ranchero Road in Clarkson, was indicted on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, and being a persistent felony offender in the first degree.

Willis’ charges result from a February 24 incident during which he is accused of manufacturing the illegal drug methamphetamine and having in his possession the drug hydrocodone as well as drug paraphernalia.
