Grayson County’s track teams found great success this weekend as they took part in the Warren East Raider Run, which was held on the track at Western Kentucky University on Saturday.
With 20 teams on hand for both the boys and girls events, the Cougars finished in a tie for second with Greenwood with 94 points apiece. Warren Central won the event with 133 points.
The Lady Cougars acquitted themselves well also, finishing eighth with 29.5 points. Bowling Green won the event with 105-1/2 points, while Woodford County was second with 103 and Assumption and Bardstown tied for third with 100 points each.
The Cougars had first-place finishes in three different events. Senior Carter Cannon won the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:38.75.
Cannon was also a part of the other two Cougar firsts as part of two relay teams. The 4x800-meter team of Cannon, Zach Berry, Sheldon Jones and Clay Priddy won with a time of 8:26.53. The same four runners also won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:44.15.
Individuals earning points for the Cougars included: junior Max Cabe, 5th in the 110-meter hurdles in :17.69, and 6th in the 300-meter hurdles in :44.32; sophomore Brent Crawford, 8th in the 110-meter hurdles; junior Cody Woosley, 5th in the 100-meters in :11.84, 4th in the 400-meters in :54.69, and 7th in the 200-meters in :24.65; sophomore Clay Priddy, 4th in the 1600-meters in 4:47.95; sophomore Sheldon Jones, 3rd in the 800-meter run in 2:06.81; senior Zach Berry, 4th in the 800-meters in 2:07.11, and 8th in the triple jump at 37-feet, 1/2-inch.
Other point-winners: senior Chris Grubbs, 7th in the long jump at 19-feet even; junior Andrew Vincent, 4th in the discus at 114-feet, 4-inches, and second in the javelin at 111-feet even; sophomore Jared O’Connell, 4th in the javelin at 105-feet, 11-inches; 7th-grader Brandon Hicks, 8th in the javelin at 83-feet, 7-inches; sophomore Trey Sanders, 2nd in the pole vault at 12-feet, 6-inches, and sophomore David Imbrescia, 5th in the pole vault at 10-feet even.
Other relay teams earning points for the Cougars included: the ‘B’ team of Justin Gallagher, Nick Dunnavent, Bradley Stone and Andy Nelson, 7th in the 4x800-meters in 9:17.44; the ‘B’ team of Jared O’Connell, Alex Burden, Radney Bradley and Jordan Smith, 8th in 4x200-meters in 1:55.69; the ‘A’ team of Taylor Wright, Imbrescia, Sanders and Cabe, 6th in the 4x100-meters in :48.56; the ‘B’ team of Grubbs, Gallagher, Dunnavent and Stone, 4th in the 4x400-meters in 3:57.33.
Individuals earning points for the girls were: sophomore Chaley Trail, 9th in the 1600-meters in 5:39.32, and 3rd in the 3200-meters in 11:55.22; 8th-grader Bailey Martin, 7th in the 400-meters in 1:07.23; junior Katie Beeler, 3rd in the triple jump at 29-feet, 9-1/2-inches, and 8th in the pole vault at 7-feet even; Hannah Ashley, 8th in the discus at 77-feet, 5-inches, and 6th in the javelin at 55-feet, 1-inch.
The girls 4x400-meter relay team of Shea Boone, Kallie Jo Dennis, Bailey Martin and Avery Sedam finished 2nd with a time of 4:41.01.
