Charles Ray Elder, 72, of Caneyville passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was born on August 11, 1939 in Caneyville, the son of Lloyd and Winona Elder. He was a retired farmer. Charles also worked for several years at Crume’s Monuments in Caneyville. He served in and retired from the United States Army after 30 years. Charles was a deacon for over 22 years at the Caneyville Baptist Church and was a proud member of the Ohio County Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Lilie Dean Elder of Caneyville, two daughters, Sandy Pierce (Doug), of Caneyville and Leah Curry (Troy,) of Greensburg, KY, one grandchild, Brook Curry, and one brother, James R. Elder (Doris), of Marietta, GA.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Caneyville Baptist Church. Bro. Paul Childress will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville from 3-9 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service at the Caneyville Baptist Church.
