Playing the quarterback position, Heavrin scored on runs of 47, three and 59 yards, then returned a punt 65 yards to put the Cougars in the lead 26-0 in the third quarter. Hancock County's only score came with just 25 seconds remaining in the game.
After taking the opening kickoff at their own 44, the Hornets fumbled the ball and the Cougars recovered it at their own 41 for their first possession.
After a run gained seen yards, Heavrin appeared out of a crowd on second down, carrying the ball around the right side. He outraced everyone to the goal line for the first score of the game. Heavrin then kept the ball again to score a two-pointer and with 6:41 left, the Cougars led 8-0.
The Cougar defense forced a punt at the Hornet 39, and when it was partially blocked, the Cougars took over at the Hancock 46.
Grayson County moved to the 10, but faltered. Hancock gave the ball right back, though, at their own six. Two plays later, Heavrin carried in from the three to make it 14-0.
After Grayson County forced another punt, Heavrin got free around the right side and beat everyone down the sideline to score again. A run failed once more, but Grayson County led 20-0 with 3:37 left, and that's the way the half ended.
After punting on the first possession of the second half, the Cougars forced Hancock to punt as well. Heavrin took the ball at the 35, and turned to the left sideline. No one touched him as he raced 65 yards for the final Cougar score of the evening, making it 16-0.r.
Following a poor Cougar punt, the Hornets took over at the Cougar 26 with 1:14 left to play. A pass and three running plays resulted in the only Hornet score of the game with 24.9 seconds left.
Following the Hornets' kickoff, the Cougars took a knee and went home with their first victory of the season.
