In the Name of the Lord we serve, The Grayson County Ministerial Association wants to express our appreciation for the efforts and contributions of the fraternal and other organizations, businesses, churches and individuals of this community in our Annual Christmas Basket Distribution.
With your help we were able to prepare and distribute over 1,000 Christmas baskets this past Friday and Saturday, December 12 & 13. Of these some 230 were delivered with volunteer help to senior citizen apartments from Clarkson to Caneyville.
The warehouse facility on Commerce Drive was made available by Randy Carter and Ray Martin. Our local Community Action Agency shouldered the massive task of taking applications, compiling names, setting up distribution times and organizing delivery of Christmas Baskets to senior citizen apartments. Members of the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge #236 were instrumental in picking up canned & box goods, apples, hams and other items, delivering them to the warehouse and organizing them. Bel-Cheese donated cheese items for each of the Christmas Baskets. Both Wal-Mart and Save-A-Lot donated bags for the food and fruit. Volunteers for preparation and distribution on Friday and Saturday represented an impressive cross-section of the community: from churches, to businesses, to organizations, to school bus drivers, and individuals in the community at large.
Financial support came from Wal-Mart, Bank of Clarkson, The Cecilian Bank, Leitchfield Deposit Bank, Employees of Wilson & Muir Bank, Knights of Columbus, Leitchfield Masonic Lodge #236, Order of the Eastern Star #26, Leitchfield Shrine Club, Insurance Agencies and Pharmacies, Realtors and Landlords, Churches and Sunday School Classes, as well as many individuals in our community.
We’ve been told by newcomers to the area, as well as friends, acquaintances, ministers and relatives from other areas that they’ve never seen anything like this for community involvement, scope and scale of outreach. There is an amazing generous and caring spirit to be found in our community.
Despite our best efforts, we’ve likely failed to acknowledge some of the many who have made this epic effort possible. May you be specially blessed.
May your be a most blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year. In the Name of the Lord we serve,
Lee Schroerlucke
Minister, Leitchfield Christian Church
Treasurer, Grayson County Ministerial Association (GCMA)
