With Kaylan Shull scoring 20 points and pulling down nine rebounds, the seventh-grade Lady Cougars improved their record to 12-11 for the season with a 30-12 win over visiting Hancock County on Monday.

The Lady Cougars never trailed in the game and the defense held the visitors in check all night.

Shull and Sloane Embry did all the scoring in the first quarter as the Lady Cougars scored the first five points, then took a 9-2 lead heading into the second quarter.

Shull added eight more points in the second period while the defense held the visitors to three points to make it 19-5 at the half.

Shull’s third three-pointer of the night and a short jumper by Eleni Eversole gave the Lady Cougars a 19-point lead, 24-5 at the start of the third quarter, but they went scoreless the rest of the period. Hancock’s Natalie McCaslin buried a three with three seconds left in the period to make it 24-8 heading into the final period of play.

McCaslin led Hancock County with six points. Embry finished her night with four points and added two assists and a steal. Eversole, Courtney Vincent and Sarah Pierce all had two points to complete the Lady Cougar scoring.

Though she did not score in the game, Brooklyn Williams pulled down seven rebounds and led the team in steals with three.
