After coming from behind to retake the lead late in the third quarter, the seventh-grade Lady Cougars went scoreless in the fourth quarter and dropped a 30-18 decision to visiting Edmonson County last Tuesday evening.

The Lady Cougars scored the first five points of the game and led throughout most of the first quarter, but the Lady Wildcats scored the last four points of the period to tie the score at 7-7 heading into the second quarter.

Paige Carnes, who lead all scorers with 11 points, opened the scoring in the second quarter for the Lady Wildcats by hitting the first of three three-pointers on the night to put her team in front 10-7.

Chaley Trail responded with a short jumper at the 4:30 mark to make it 10-9, but the Lady Wildcats outscored Grayson County 7-2 the rest of the way to hold a six-point, 17-11 lead at the half.

The Lady Cougars opened the third period with a 7-0 run to give them their first lead since the first period, 18-17 following one-of-two free throws by Machaela Perkins with 1:10 left to play.

But Carnes buried another three-pointer with two seconds left in the period to put her team back on top to stay.

Kaylan Shull led the Lady Cougars in scoring with five points, and also led the team on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds. Perkins and Eleni Eversole both had four points. Eversole added eight rebounds and Perkins had four.

Trail finished with three points and seven boards, while Brooklyn Williams closed out the Lady Cougar scoring with two points and added six rebounds.
